Avgoustiatis

Avgoustiatis is a relatively rare red grape variety cultivated primarily in the Ionian Islands—especially Zakynthos—and the western Peloponnese. It is known for producing vibrant wines with a surprisingly deep, bright purple color, even though it is not as widely planted as other Greek indigenous grapes.

On the palate, this variety stands out for its intense aromas of ripe red fruits, like cherries and blackberries, complemented by subtle Mediterranean herbal notes. It typically yields dry red wines with a medium to full body, velvety tannins, and balanced acidity, making them approachable when young but also capable of graceful aging for several years.
